Thunder Announce Roster Changes

January 30, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Stockton Thunder News Release

Stockton, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, owned by the Calgary Flames and proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's New York Islanders and the AHL's Bridgeport Sound Tigers, have acquired defenseman Colin Shea from the Idaho Steelheads in exchange for defenseman Shawn Boutin, and in a separate move, goaltender Kent Simpson has been reassigned by the Islanders to the AHL.

Shea, 22, has played in 29 games this season in Idaho, scoring 8 points (3 goals, 5 assists) and earning a plus-8 rating thus far in the 2014-15 campaign.

The rookie defenseman is a native of Shrewsury, Massachusetts and played four seasons of collegiate hockey at UMass (Amherst) where he was a teammate of current Thunder players Adam Phillips and Mike Pereira.

Shea comes to Stockton in a deal that sends Shawn Boutin to Idaho. Boutin is a three-year member of the Stockton Thunder and was a part of the 2012-13 Kelly Cup Finals appearance. This season, Boutin has put up 10 points (3 goals, 7 assists) in 41 games, just 3 points shy of his career high of 13.

In separate roster move goaltender Kent Simpson has been reassigned from Stockton to Bridgeport by the Islanders for his third stint this season in the AHL.

Simpson has registered a record of 4-9-1-0, has a save-percentage of 0.905 and a 3.26 goals-against-average this season with the Thunder after starting the season with the Colorado Eagles.

The Thunder host the Utah Grizzlies this Saturday for Law & Order night, a celebration of those brave men and women who protect and serve our community. For tickets to the game call (209) 373-1500 or visit StocktonThunder.com .
