State College Spikes News Release

STATE COLLEGE, PA - Darren Seferina collected two of the State College Spikes' three hits on the night, and the Spikes took advantage of Auburn Doubledays mistakes to grab a 5-3 victory on Friday night at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park.

Seferina, the St. Louis Cardinals' fifth-round draft choice, doubled to right-center field for State College's (28-12) first hit of the game in the fourth inning. The Curacao native then drove in a run with his fifth-inning single.

The Spikes produced four runs in the fifth to overcome a 2-0 deficit, but Seferina's knock was the only hit of the inning. State College used a walk, a hit batsman and two Auburn (18-21) errors to set up the rally.

Robelys Reyes also brought in a run with a groundout in the fifth, and knocked in the Spikes' last run with a seventh-inning single for the only other State College hit. Reyes added a pair of walks as well.

Jeff Rauh (4-0) earned the win in relief for the Spikes with three one-run innings of work. Rauh gave up three hits and struck out three batters in the victory. Nick Lomascolo then threw a perfect eighth inning to set it up for Kyle Grana (4), who closed out the game with a shutout ninth, stranding runners on second and third to finish his outing. Grana also struck out another batters, giving him 35 strikeouts in 23 innings this season.

State College starter Will Anderson made his shortest outing of the year, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over four innings on the hill. Anderson struck out five, but had to battle through a first inning in which he loaded the bases twice. The right-hander rebounded to strike out the side, but unofficially threw 36 pitches in the frame.

Auburn starter James Bourque (1-2) took the loss after allowing the Spikes' four fifth-inning runs on two hits, four walks and a hit batsman. All four runs were unearned. Bourque also struck out two batters.

Brandon Miller went 2-for-5 with a double to pace the Doubledays offense. Auburn had eight hits on the evening, but stranded nine runners.
